Fe3O4 Nanorods Coated with ZIF-8 and Decorated with Pt Nanoparticles as Magnetically Actuated Nanoscale Stirring Bars for Catalytic Dye Degradation, H2 Production, and Hydrogenation of Olefins

Abstract: A well-designed magnetic rodlike MOF-based nanocomposite confining highly dispersed Pt single atoms and clusters (denoted as Fe 3 O 4 -NR@ ZIF-8/Pt) is fabricated and plays dual functional roles in high-efficient nanocatalysis and magnetically actuated stirring. Results of the catalytic experiments for dye degradation, hydrogen production of NaBH 4 , and hydrogenation of olefins show that Fe 3 O 4 -NR@ZIF-8/Pt exhibits enhanced catalytic performance in the absence of external stirring, compared with those of t… Show more

“…These values were compared to bare NWs, which were utilized as a core material in this study. The hysteresis loops of the coated and uncoated ZNWs, shown in Figure S2, differ significantly from those of the bare NWs; mainly showing saturation magnetization (77.7 and 75, respectively) lower than that of the NWs due to the antimagnetic ZIF crystal coating, which is in agreement with previous reports. , …”

“…According to previous studies, nanostirrers have been developed to avoid the aforementioned drawbacks caused by conventional stirring systems. For instance, Song’s group has synthesized a spindle-shaped Fe 2 O 3 core coated with a Pd/PZS shell to apply in the microdroplet dye fading reaction .…”

“…For instance, Song’s group has synthesized a spindle-shaped Fe 2 O 3 core coated with a Pd/PZS shell to apply in the microdroplet dye fading reaction . Chen’s group also has assembled an Fe 3 O 4 nanorod as a core and wrapped a layer of ZIF-8 loaded with Pt nanoparticles, which combines with a catalytic ability and magnetic drive for nanostirring . Some ferroferric oxide and polyacrylonitrile nanofibers were prepared by electrospinning and subsequently broke into short nanorotors by an ultrasonic treatment …”
