Fe3O4@Astragalus Polysaccharide Core–Shell Nanoparticles for Iron Deficiency Anemia Therapy and Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Vivo

Abstract: Fe 3 O 4 @astragalus polysaccharide core-shell nanoparticles (Fe 3 O 4 @APS NPs) were demonstrated to be an efficient therapeutic drug for treating iron deficiency anemia (IDA) in vivo. The Fe 3 O 4 @APS NPs have been synthesized using a two steps approach involving hydrothermal synthesis and subsequent esterification. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy studies show that APS are attached on the surfaces of the highly monodisperse Fe 3 O 4 NPs. Dynamic ligh… Show more

“…(2) generally formed as Fe 3 O 4 in nanosized particles obtained from biomineralization (Alphandéry, 2020a; Rahn-Lee & Komeili, 2013). Synthesized nanoparticles (Fe 3 O 4 @APS NPs) have good water solubility and stability, especially in imitated digestion (Wang et al, 2019). In the present study, PPB also showed high water solubility and stability.…”

“…Approved for coating are monosaccharides, which further improve biocompatibility and are successfully used intravenously for the treatment of iron deficiency [56,59]. Joined with iron sulfate, the lipid nanoparticle compritol 888 ATO initially behaves similar to a quick release drug and later displays sustained release.…”

“…Anemia is a worldwide public health problem that is caused by a range of factors, including inherited disease, acute blood loss, iron deficiency, end-stage renal disease, pregnancy and aging [ 1 ]. Iron-deficiency anemia (IDA) is a common nutritional disease suffered by 1 billion people and must be treated with iron formulations (such as ferrous sulphate, ferric carboxymaltose and Fe 3 O 4 @Astragalus polysaccharide nanoparticles) [ 2 , 3 , 4 ]. Though iron supplementation is an effective therapy, gastrointestinal disturbance and oxidative bowel damage are known to be uncompliant side effects.…”
