Introdução: A leishmaniose tegumentar americana (LTA) é uma doença infecto-parasitária e não contagiosa. Observa-se um aumento progressivo de notificações nas diferentes regiões brasileiras. Material e método: Estudo epidemiológico descritivo, dos casos de LTA na macrorregião do Triângulo Sul de Minas Gerais. Utilizou-se de dados secundários do Departamento de Informática para o Sistema Único de Saúde, entre 2010 e 2020, as variáveis raça/cor, faixa etária e evolução da doença. Realizou-se uma revisão de literatura, nas plataformas SciELO e LILACS, entre 2012 e 2022, com os descritores leishmaniose cutânea e prevenção, em português e inglês. Resultados: Entre 2010 e 2020 notificou-se 88 casos de LTA na região. Observou-se que os mais acometidos são homens (79,5%) e que 58,7% evoluíram para a cura da doença. Discussão: Nota-se um aumento de notificações da doença, com ampla distribuição nacional a partir de 2003. Ademais, comparou-se o Triângulo Sul e o Brasil, com predomínio da incidência no sexo masculino. Conclusões: Assim, destacam-se propostas de intervenção para a região a partir da revisão de literatura, com melhoria do controle epidemiológico e territorial, estratégias para prevenção e diagnóstico precoce.
