Fault diagnosis of a squirrel cage induction motor fed by an inverter using lissajous curve of an auxiliary winding voltage

Abstract: The development of electronic power components has allowed the increase of the induction machine performance. Indeed, monitoring squirrel cage induction motors driven through rectifiers and inverters has been a major concern. This paper presents a new method to diagnose the combination inverter-machine faults. This technic considers an auxiliary winding which is a small coil inserted between two stator phases. It is based on Lissajous curve of this auxiliary winding voltage Park components. For this purpose, m… Show more

“…Figure 1 shows the coil position that forms an angle 𝜃 0 with the A stator phase and has no conductive contact with other phases but is mutually coupled with all the other circuits in both the stator and rotor sides. This approach was applied previously to a wound rotor induction motor [23]- [25]. The voltage of the auxiliary winding is the main key of this method.…”

“…[ϕ s ] and [ ϕ r ] are the stator and rotor fluxes vectors respectively. The details of this matrixes are presented in [4], [16]- [18]. Furthermore, the overall mathematical model machine equations can be written as follows:…”

“…It is powerful in detecting broken bars and end rings and based on spectal analysis method using fast fourier transform [12]- [17] and discrete wavelet transform (DWT) [8], [9]. The auxiliary winding voltage is a new method used for diagnosising the squirrel cage induction machine [18], [19]. It needs the insert of a small coil "sneak" between two stator phases.…”

“…In fact, in a wide range of industrial application, induction motors are used with variable speed. For this reason, the present article establishes the detection of broken rotor bars and end rings of a squirrel cage induction motor fed by an inverter [17]. Due to the inaccessibility of direct measurements of rotor parameters in asynchronous motors, a new methodology for online fault detection is presented.…”
