Fatty acid composition, physicochemical properties, antioxidant and cytotoxic activity of apple seed oil obtained from apple pomace

Abstract: The physicochemical properties of apple seed oil were comparable with edible food oil, indicating its better stability and broad application in the food and pharmaceutical industries. Apple seed oil could be a good source of natural antioxidants. Also, the in vitro cytotoxic activity against specific cell lines exhibited its potential as an anticancer agent.

“…Electron paramagnetic resonance is a sensitive and nondestructive technique to detect unpaired electrons free radicals in the samples at ambient temperature 3,4 . Several studies have used this method to investigate free radicals in naturally occurring samples 3,5,6 . The EPR methods can provide insights into the radical organization.…”

“…In general, apple pomace is mostly used for extraction of pectin and animal feed production. Considerable research has been conducted on the characterization and use of the components of apple pomace such as pectin (3), organic acids (4), enzymes (5), natural antioxidants (6), oil (7), natural flavor mixtures (8), and edible fibers (9). Usually, apple pomace is a mixture of apple peel, apple flesh, apple seeds, and stem tissues, and separate apple peel is difficult to gain.…”
