Fatigue resistance of dentin bonds prepared with two- vs. three-step adhesives: Effect of carbodiimide

Abstract: The application of a cross-linker to demineralized dentin is reportedly effective at extending the durability of dentin bonds. Yet, results for the fatigue crack growth resistance have been limited to only a three-step etch-and-rinse adhesive. Objective To compare the effect of a cross- linker pretreatment on the durability of resin-dentin bonds prepared with a two- vs three-step adhesive system, in terms of the fatigue crack growth resistance. Methods Bonded interface Compact Tension (CT) specimens were pr… Show more

“…A total of 50 articles were included in the qualitative analysis. Of these, 5 articles were not considered for the meta-analysis because two of them did not express the BS data as means and SDs [ 76 , 77 ], and in 3 articles the number of specimens used could not be retrieved [ 78 , 79 , 80 ], totalling 45 articles considered for the quantitative analysis [ 17 , 81 , 82 , 83 , 84 , 85 , 86 , 87 , 88 , 89 , 90 , 91 , 92 , 93 , 94 , 95 , 96 , 97 , 98 , 99 , 100 , 101 , 102 , 103 , 104 , 105 , 106 , 107 , 108 , 109 , 110 , 111 , 112 , 113 , 114 , 115 , 116 , 117 , 118 , 119 , 120 , 121 , 122 , 123 , 124 , 125 ]. “…This issue is worthwhile to consider in future studies. Another limitation worth considering is that the testing environment did not include other forms of bonded interface attack, including biofilm exposure [Mutluay et al, 2013a], and the action of MMPs [Zhang et al, 2017]. These factors could be important to the relative merits of the DEJ, but were not considered.…”

“…The degradation in dentin bond durability resulting from dentin proteases and the effectiveness of an EDC treatment in stabilizing the fatigue response were recently explored by Zhang et al [73,107,108]. The experimental evaluation consisted of evaluations of the stress-life fatigue behavior and the fatigue crack growth resistance.…”

“…Some fibrils are much thinner than normal, indicating protease degradation. This degradation was not evident in the EDC treated specimens [107,108]. …”
