Fatigue Life Analysis of Ball Bearings and a Shaft System Considering the Combined Bearing Preload and Angular Misalignment

Abstract: Bearing preload significantly affects the running performance of a shaft-bearing system including the fatigue life, wear, and stiffness. Due to the mounting error, the bearing rings are often angularly misaligned. The effects of the combined bearing preload and angular misalignment on the fatigue life of ball bearings and a shaft-bearing system are analyzed in this paper. The contact force distribution of angular contact ball bearings in the shaft-bearing system is investigated based on the system model. The s… Show more

“…However, increasing a bearing's cleanliness does not always improve its fatigue properties [43]. Cyclic and continuous loads have a remarkable effect on the running performance of the bearing, including material fatigue, wear, and stiffness [44]. These stresses cause micro-cracks in the structure of the bearing.…”

“…During drilling operations, the rotary table and the drive shaft may be subjected to various dysfunctions; as the bottom vibrations reoccur, the bearings at the rotary table may deform, which would then lead to vibrations at the floor. Considering the dynamic loads that the rotary table supports, and the torsional vibrations that propagate to the surface, the service life of the ball bearings could decrease [15].…”
