Fat Transfer Techniques: The Effect of Harvest and Transfer Methods on Adipocyte Viability and Review of the Literature

Abstract: The variety of techniques used to collect, clean, and reinject fat do not damage the fat cells except for the collection of fat at -700 mmHg vacuum. External ultrasound, preoperatively, does not destroy fat cells but produces smaller bundles of fat. The ratchet gun does not result in increased fat cell loss. Preoperative massage causes 30% cell loss and deformation of 80% of the remaining cells.

“…According to the author, the vacuum pressure interferes significantly in the destruction of adipocytes and the level of absorption, and at 700 mmHg the lesion reaches 15% increase in absorption after grafting, however pressures of 250, 300, 500 mmHg damages the cell less than 2% 13 .…”

“…In our study the choice of aspiration with 10 ml syringe and 3 mm cannula was made, the use of this less traumatic technique compared to the use of vacuum suction unit produce less damage of adipocytes during aspiration 5,13,14 . Experimental studies involving liposuction procedures shows techniques more harmful and long duration [11][12][13] .…”
