Fast Screening for Copper‐Based Bimetallic Electrocatalysts: Efficient Electrocatalytic Reduction of CO2to C2+Products on Magnesium‐Modified Copper

Abstract: Electroreduction of CO2 (CO2RR) into high value‐added chemicals is an attractive route to achieve carbon neutrality. However, the development of an efficient catalyst for CO2RR is still largely by trial‐and‐error and is very time‐consuming. Herein, we built an electrocatalyst testing platform featuring a home‐built automatic flow cell to accelerate the discovery of efficient catalysts. A fast screening of 109 Cu‐based bimetallic catalysts in only 55 h identifies Mg combined with Cu as the best electrocatalyst … Show more

“…For example, the modification of Mg 2+ species on the surface Cu active sites can lead to the stabilization of the Cu + species and enhanced CO 2 activation to form CO intermediates, thus facilitating the following C–C coupling to C 2+ products. 78 In this condition, the participation of metal B can regulate the electron configurations and d-band centers of metal A and stabilize the active species during the electrochemical process.…”

“…Recently, it has been reported that bimetallic alloy or nanoclusters show better photocatalytic performance than pure metal catalysts. For the photocatalytic CRR, the bimetallic synergy of alloy or nanocluster can prompt the activation of CO 2 and the stabilization of intermediates, which is favorable for the further C–C coupling to generate C2+ products. , For instance, Chen et al deliberately prepared novel CoFe-based catalysts (supported by alumina nanosheets) by H 2 reduction of CoFeAl layered-double-hydroxide (LDH) nanosheets at temperatures of 300–700 °C (denoted as CoFe-T) . As shown in Figure a, with the increase of the LDH-nanosheet reduction temperature, the chemical composition and morphology of the reaction products differed, as well as the CO 2 hydrogenation selectivity of each CoFe-T catalyst.…”
