Farming by soil in Europe: status and outlook of cropping systems under different pedoclimatic conditions

Abstract: Background Despite of the importance of soils in agronomy, to date no comprehensive assessment of cropping in Europe has been performed from the viewpoint of the soil variability and its relationship to cropping patterns. In order to fill this knowledge gap, we studied the cropping patterns in different soils of European climate zones with regards to the shares of their crop types in a comparative manner. The study highlights the main features of farming by soil in Europe. Farming by soil in thi… Show more

“…Par rapport aux initiatives visant à mettre en commun des données sur les performances de différents systèmes agricoles, (par exemple Sachs et al, 2010), sur leur positionnement édaphique (Tóth et al, 2020) Pour autant, le gradient ainsi constitué doit permettre de comparer des processus comparables, suivant des facteurs de variations préalablement identifiés. Telle est l'une des fonctions des proxys, fondés sur les hypothèses formulées.…”

“…However, an important question arises: «how to achieve such local adaptation?». In fact, a proper CAP implementation would require (i) to know the pedoclimate of the specific area of interest; (ii) to identify suitable farm management practices according to the pedoclimate [3,4,5]; and (iii) to select the best practices on the base of the farming system [6].…”

“…Proximal sensing can be classified in Unmanned Aerial Vehicles UAVs with different cameras mounted on them, or tractor-mounted sensors (TMS). The UAVs [17][18][19][20][21] are massively used in agricultural systems [17][18][19][20][21]. Proximal sensing equipment also used for VR fertilization is represented by Greenseeker [22][23][24] and OptRx [25].…”
