Abstract: Apart from misdiagnosis, the Lazarus phenomenon, a spontaneous return of circulation after cardiac arrest, is a potential cause for false positive death certification. Because of medicolegal consequences and thus a negative publication bias, the incidence of false positive death certification is unknown.
