One of the obstacles in the healing of mental patients is the knowledge of the community and the family. Usually society and family, treatment of mental disorders patients brought to the paranormal. The purpose of this study is to analyze factors that affect the ability of families in caring for people with mental disorders. This research is a quantitative research with observational analytic design cross sectional approach. This study was conducted on February 2018 at Puskesmas Teja Pamekasan with a family of households living in a house with mental disorders of 97 families. A sample size of 87 families. The independent variables are knowledge, family support, and family burden. Dependent variable is the ability of families in caring for people with mental disorders. Data were analyzed using logistic regression test with P = 0.05. The results showed that the variable of knowledge with p = 0,646; OR = .798, family support variable with p = 0.010; OR = 6.028, variable of family load with p = 0,313; OR = 1.688 so it can be concluded that the most dominant factor is family support factor with influence of 6.028. Less of family support making the lack of family ability to care people with mental disorders, so that the efforts of promoting and counseling the family in terms of how to care for people with mental disorders with counseling and home visits so that government programs can be achieved optimally.

This study aims to identify the relationship between caregiver burden of patients with schizophrenia and caregiver quality of life (QOL). A cross sectional study involving 222 caregivers patients with schizophrenia was conveniently recruited from the psychiatric clinic of a mental health hospital in Malang Indonesia. Caregiver Burden Inventory Scale and Schizophrenia Caregiver QOL was used to assess the level of burden and QOL among the caregivers respectively. Descriptive statistics was used to determine caregivers' socio-demographic characteristic and the level of caregivers' burden and QOL. Spearman Rho correlation test was conducted to determine the relationship of caregiver burden and caregiver QOL. About 59.6% of schizophrenia caregivers experienced moderate to severe level of burden. The results showed that there was a significant, strong and negative relationship between the caregiver burden and QOL (r = -0.434, p \ 0.001). Most of the participants reported emotional burden and moderate QOL especially psychological and physical QOL, well-being, relationships with friends, and material burden. The findings indicated the higher the caregiver burden, the lower the QOL experienced by family caregivers of individuals with schizophrenia. It is necessary to improve the mental health nursing services for schizophrenia caregivers by providing mental health counseling, and developing support groups for them.

Family Psychoeducation Increases the Role of Families in Caring for People with Mental Disorders

Family psychoeducation is a family therapy that combines clinical interventions to increase family understanding in order to improve the health of people with mental disorders. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of family psychoeducation on the role of the family caring for people with mental disorders. This study used a Quasi Experiment design: pre-test and post-test Control Group Design. The sample was taken by using purposive sampling. The sample was 20 people in the control group and 20 people in the treatment group. The analysis test used was the Wilcoxon sign test (intra-group) and the Mann Whitney (inter-group) test. The intra-group analysis test in the pre and post-test for the control group obtained p value = 0.517 which means there is no difference, while the treatment group obtained p value = 0.004 which means there is a difference. Inter-group analysis test of the treatment group and the control group obtained p value = 0.008, which means that there is an effect of family psychoeducation on the role of families in caring for people with mental disorders. Family psychoeducation can be applied to families with mentally disorders people.
