“…In a Spanish population, women with breast cancer undergoing different types of treatment were found to have higher levels of anxiety among patients at advanced stages compared to other stages (Cáceres et al, 2022 ). “…Goldney et al [ 44 ] demonstrated that the QoL of individuals with depression was lower than in individuals with the same disease but without depressive symptoms. This result was also evidenced in breast cancer patients [ 42 ], mainly in those individuals with several sessions of chemotherapy and more severe disorders [ 42 ]. Thus, due to the possibility of depression symptoms persisting after the cure of the disease, which would directly impact the QoL in this population, depression should be considered an important condition to be prevented and treated, especially in breast cancer survivors.…”

“…The age (i.e., younger patients), socioeconomic level (i.e., lower income), and level of disease (i.e., severe disease) increase the depression level in breast cancer patients [ 41 ]. The time of diagnosis, the type of adjuvant treatment (i.e., chemotherapy), and the number of chemotherapies were related to the presence of depressive symptoms in breast cancer patients [ 42 ]. It should be highlighted that depressive symptoms can occur during treatment and also persist after the cure of the disease [ 18 ].…”

“…1 Although the survival trend of cancer is generally increasing, 2 there is still lack of effective strategies for most types of cancers to provide a complete cure or long-term-effective treatment. 3 Moreover, due to the rapid progress of the cancer, patients with advanced cancer have a higher burden of symptoms, suffering more prevalent and intense physical symptoms and emotional disorders, such as fatigue, nausea, pain, depression, anxiety, etc, 4,5 and are associated with more impaired quality of life, 4,6,7 compared with their counterparts at the early stage. Among this population, there is a subgroup with low socioeconomic status.…”
