Factors Affecting the Effectiveness of Inorganic Silicate Sealer Material through Multi-Quality Characteristics

Abstract: This study investigates the effectiveness of concrete protection with two inorganic silicate sealer materials (ISSMs). The Taguchi method and grey relational analysis (GRA) have been used to identify the key factors influencing concrete protection provided by the surface treatment. Seven control factors with two levels were selected. By using the orthogonal array L12 (27), 12 experiments are chosen and four tests—the compressive strength test, resistivity test, absorption test and permeability test—were perfor… Show more

“…In the grey system, black implies having no information and white signifies having all information [14]. GRA has been widely applied to optimize problems involving multiple factors and responses [17,37,38]. Data pre-processing by grey relational generation was performed on the experimental data of the responses in Table 3, namely, COF and W s .…”

“…Using this approach, the optimal levels of operating variables were found to be holding time of 20 s, residence time of 30 min, TiO 2 concentration of 5 wt.% and barrel temperature of 225 °C. Utilizing an L 12 orthogonal array, Zou et al [17] integrated S/N ratios of the Taguchi method with GRA to identify the significant contributors to surface treatment of concrete structures. The results indicated that the water-binder ratio with 89.99% and the weight of the pozzolanic material with 2.55% were the key factors influencing concrete protection.…”

“…The orthogonal table is a set of rules design tables, where L is the code of the orthogonal table, n is the number of trials, t is the number of levels, c is the number of factors, and the symbol for orthogonal table is expressed as L n (t c ) [31]. For example, L 9 (3 4 ) indicates that nine experiments are required, and up to four factors can be observed, each of which is three levels.…”

“…ANOVA and F-test were performed to statistically see the control factors significant process and percent contribution to the experiment. In the process, the S/N ratio sum of squares for each factor is determined to calculate the betweengroup variability and then F-test and contribution ratio can be calculated, respectively [9].…”
