Factorial Validation of Malaysian Adapted Brunel Mood Scale in an Adolescent Sample

Abstract: Purpose: The present study investigated the psychometric properties of a Malaysian adapted Brunel Mood Scale. Methods:The questionnaire was administered to 355 young sport athletes with a mean age of 14.69 + 1.70 years. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and Cronbach's alpha were used to determine the factorial validity and the internal consistency of the questionnaire respectively. Results:CFA results revealed adequate model fit, best represented by a 6-factor model with one of the items removed (item 24). In… Show more

“…The BRUMS is a valid and reliable measure with α values for all subscales above the recommended value of .70 (Lan et al 2012; Terry et al 1999, 2003). The BRUMS was translated to Malay language by Hashim et al (2010) and was tested for reliability and validity among the Malaysian population. The BRUMS-M showed good factorial validity and satisfactory reliability.…”

“…Authors of the method convincingly proved that it is suitable to capture emotional states of an individual during the whole (adolescent and adult) athletic career (Terry et al, 1999;. Reliable qualities of the BRUMS were verified in many cultural contexts (Hashim et al, 2010;Quartiroli et al, 2017;Terry, Potgieter, et al, 2003;Zhang et al, 2014). The aim of this study was to develop Czech adaptation of BRUMS, verify its factorial structure on a sample of adolescent athletes, and concurrently evaluate measurement equivalence across gender.…”

“…This measure was developed for children in classroom and athletic environments (Terry et al, 1999). It was found to have high factorial, content, and criterion validity (Terry et al, 1999) and has been translated and validated in non-English-speaking populations (Hashim, Zulkifli, & Yusof, 2010;Van Wijik, 2011). This measure was used for convergent validity.…”
