Show more

“…These data reinforce the potential 51 , the first occurrence of Microhedbergella renilaevis marks an important bioevent that represents a major step in the evolution and diversification of the Albian planktic fauna, an event that was not identified in the studied section. Furthermore, the chronostratigraphic positioning of the lithological section studied in the upper Aptian, can be corroborated by the occurrence of Sergipea variverrucata Palynozone P-270 [66][67][68] , which was identified throughout the Sítio Sobradinho section by Teixeira et al 69 .…”

“…Moreover, abundances of these “Epicontinental Sea Fauna”, described in the upper Aptian of northwest Africa 76 and along the Antarctic margin 114 , similar as we recorded, are perhaps associated with highly productive continental margins 113 . The sedimentary organic matter content of the Sítio Sobradinho section 69 suggests a position more distal to intermediate in the context of the epicontinental shallow sea. At the top of the section, the decreased occurrence of foraminifera, associated with the other groups (bivalves, gastropods, plant fragments) and especially P. micropapillosa , may indicate a change in environmental conditions, with the beginning of a mixohaline to limnic environment 6 , 43 , 63 that can characterize very proximal conditions but with the high influence of components of marine origin, evidencing a proximal–distal transitional coastal marine environment 69 .…”

“…The work of Teixeira et al (2017), an interesting study of palynofacies focused on the paleoenvironments of the Romualdo Member, recorded a few samples containing specimens of Sergipea variverrucata Regali et al, 1974emend. Regali, 1987.…”

“…The Romualdo Formation, composed by basal sandstones overlapped by greenish marls and fossil-rich calcareous concretions, marks an important marine ingression in the northeast of Brazil during the late Aptian (Custódio et al, 2017;Teixeira et al, 2017). Its fossiliferous association includes plants, invertebrates, and mainly vertebrates, with a predominance of the Osteichthyes and Pterosauria groups, but including Testudines, Crocodylomorpha and Dinosauria as well (Santos & Valença, 1968;Kellner, 1987;Maisey, 1991;Viana & Cavalcanti, 1991;Martill, 1993;Kellner, 1998Kellner, , 2002Kellner & Tomida, 2000;Oliveira & Kellner, 2007;Oliveira & Romano, 2007;Lima et al, 2012;Polck et al, 2015;Custódio et al, 2017).…”
