Facile Synthesis and Characterization of CeO2-Nanoparticle-Loaded Carboxymethyl Cellulose as Efficient Protective Films for Mild Steel: A Comparative Study of Experiential and Computational Findings

Abstract: Corrosion is considered to be the most severe problem facing alloys and metals, one that causes potentially dangerous industrial issues such as the deterioration of buildings and machinery, and corrosion in factory tanks and pipelines in petroleum refineries, leading to limited lifetime and weak efficacy of such systems. In this work, novel CeO2-nanoparticle-loaded carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) was successfully prepared by using a simple method. The structural configuration of the prepared CeO2-nanoparticle-lo… Show more

“…The first part of the TGA curve (less than 200 °C) was similar in both CMC and AgNPs@CMC, which indicates the similar moisture content in both CMC materials. Interestingly, decomposition of the CMC skeleton was seen at 260 °C and 340 °C, which confirms the interaction between the formed AgNPs and the CMC matrix, and this interaction provides more thermal stability to the formed material (AgNPs@CMC) [ 54 ]. Beyond 600 °C, the remaining contents were found at 22% and 38% for CMC and AgNPs@CMC, respectively.…”

“…Gouda and colleagues reported the formation of novel CeO 2 -nanoparticle-loaded carboxymethyl cellulose (CeO 2 –CMC), which was successfully made using an easy method and assessed using thermal, TEM, FT-IR, and FE-SEM/EDX analyses. 151 OCP, EIS, and PDP techniques examined the corrosion protection effectiveness of coated and unprotected mild steel with the CeO 2 –CMC system in 1.0 M HCl solutions. MC simulation and DFT calculations also verified the connection between the coating film structure and corrosion protection.…”

“…Borage oil is extracted from the seeds of the Borago officinalis plant, which gives the plant its name. Borage oil is rich in the essential fatty acids of the omega-6 family, which play a pivotal role in maintaining healthy skin [156]. The presence of linoleic acid in borage oil makes it an effective treatment for Alzheimer's disease.…”
