Facile dental resin composites with tunable fluorescence by tailoring Cd-free quantum dots

Abstract: Non-toxic indium phosphide (InP) quantum dots (QDs) were synthesized by the solvothermal method and then embedded into dental resin to tune the emission color of the resin. Cell viability was investigated with a 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay and a reactive oxygen species (ROS) assay to evaluate biological applications. The results clearly indicate that employing InP QDs in creating dental resin composites allows for the fabrication of restorative materials with biocom… Show more

“…21,22 In addition, the phosphors have been used in the dental eld to enhance the aesthetics of articial crowns and restoration. [21][22][23][24][25][26][27][28][29] Under UVlight irradiation, human natural teeth emit cyan blue color with peak at 450 nm and the photoluminescence (PL) properties of teeth make whiter and brighter for human natural teeth in daylight. 30 The articial crowns and restorative materials can match the shade of the natural teeth to satisfy aesthetic requirements by adding phosphors or pigments.…”

“…Although the dental resin composite has been applied for clinical use for more than 60 years, deficiencies still exist and have puzzled the people that have applied this technology in secondary caries and fracture. [1][2][3][4] How to maintain the properties of dental resin composite in the decayed tooth as long as possible after restoration has become the research focus of this field. 5,6 Usually, the better mechanical properties of cured resin makes destruction by chewing forces difficult.…”
