Facial Fractures in the Elderly: A Retrospective Study in a Hospital in Belo Horizonte, Brazil

Abstract: Gender was associated with the presence or absence of fractures and with the etiology. There was no association between age and fractures. No association was found between etiology and age for women and men. The proportion of fractures of the zygomatic arch, mandible body, and parasymphysis treated surgically were statistically higher than the same proportion among the cases of other fractures. The fractures of the nose were more often treated conservatively than other fractures.

“…Second, due to the retrospective design of some studies the classification of the patients with respect to their experience of periodontal disease could be based only on preoperative radiographic data describing the amount of bone support at remaining teeth, since clinical data regarding the periodontal conditions at time for implant therapy or at subsequent follow-ups are not retrievable. [44][45][46] Third, there are no RCTs in the analysis, and potential biases are likely to be greater for non-randomized studies compared with RCTs.…”

“…Items may have been excluded in the initial examination or not recorded in the medical chart. [69][70][71] Third, much of the research in the field is limited by small cohort sizes. Fourth, some included studies are characterised by a low level of specificity, where the assessment of implant angulation as a complicating factor for dental implants was seldom the main focus of the investigation.…”
