Abstract-O template matching é uma técnica importante para rastreamento de padrões em imagens. O objetivo consiste em encontrar um padrão, a partir de um modelo pré-estabelecido, em uma sequência de frames. Para avaliar o grau de similaridade entre duas imagens, o coeficiente de correlação de Pearson é amplamente utilizado. Esse coeficiente é calculado para cada pixel e computacionalmente muito custoso. Este artigo propõe a utilização e comparação de Algoritmos Genéticos e do algoritmo de Otimização por Enxame de Partículas visando diminuir o tempo de processamento para realizar o rastreamento. Para avaliar o desempenho das técnicas, comparou-se o resultado obtido dos algoritmos com aquele produzido pela busca exaustiva em cada pixel. A otimização por enxame de partículas é a mais eficiente, proporcionando uma aceleração de até 196x.

The Impact of Bio-Inspired Approaches Toward the Advancement of Face Recognition

An increased number of bio-inspired face recognition systems have emerged in recent decades owing to their intelligent problem-solving ability, flexibility, scalability, and adaptive nature. Hence, this survey aims to present a detailed overview of bio-inspired approaches pertaining to the advancement of face recognition. Based on a well-classified taxonomy, relevant bio-inspired techniques and their merits and demerits in countering potential problems vital to face recognition are analyzed. A synthesis of various approaches in terms of key governing principles and their associated performance analysis are systematically portrayed. Finally, some intuitive future directions are suggested on how bio-inspired approaches can contribute to the advancement of face biometrics in the years to come.

Abstract. In this paper, a novel representation called the subband face is proposed for face recognition. The subband face is generated from selected subbands obtained using wavelet decomposition of the original face image. It is surmised that certain subbands contain information that is more significant for discriminating faces than other subbands. The problem of subband selection is cast as a combinatorial optimization problem and genetic algorithm (GA) is used to find the optimum subband combination by maximizing Fisher ratio of the training features. The performance of the GA selected subband face is evaluated using three face databases and compared with other wavelet-based representations.
