F-ETX: a predictive link state estimator for mobile networks

Abstract: Due to their inherent features, Mobile Ad Hoc Networks have proven their efficiency to exchange data between mobile nodes. The main issue in this type of a network is the delivery of data to a destination. Unfortunately, the mobility of nodes and the disturbances of the propagation channel lead to the increase of the loss rate, which undermines routing performances. To address this issue, routing protocols use link quality estimators as a metric. However, current estimators have been designed for static wirele… Show more

“…SCAOR improves the efficiency of packet delivery, E2E delay, throughput, and PDR compared to ETX and LSGO metrics. Fast ETX (F-ETX) [28] metric introduces a novel link quality assessment by using four link state estimators. It has shown more accurate and reliable link estimation results than ETX.…”

“…The forward delivery ratio (d f ) is the measured probability that a data packet successfully arrives at the recipient and the reverse delivery ratio (d r ) is the probability that the ACK packet is successfully received. We consider a packet transmission as a Bernoulli trial (success or fail), the link loss rate estimation (also known as ETX) is determined by the probability of packet loss (Bindal et al, 2016). This probability is computed as follows:…”

“…S-ROGUE uses a proactive routing algorithm based on a controlled flooding technique to reduce the routing overhead. Information about links is provided by the Fast-ETX metric (F-ETX), which assesses both the quality and the state of local links [10]. This information is also used by the algorithm to assess the quality of end-to-end paths.…”

“…3) Integration of the F-ETX metric: We have developed the Fast ETX (F-ETX) metric for assessing the quality and determine the link state in mobile networks [10]. Unlike other estimators, F-ETX uses a dynamic window size to catch packets, in order to compute the couple of ratios (d f and d r ).…”
