Extraction rate of Valuable Compounds from Peanut Skin Waste by Ethanol-Assisted Supercritical Carbon Dioxide: Modelling and Optimization

Abstract: Response Surface Methodology (RSM) was employed to optimize the extraction rate of phenolic and flavonoid contents from peanut skin by supercritical carbon dioxide (ScCO2) assisted by ethanol as entrainer. The studied extraction parameters were pressure (10 to 30 MPa), temperature (40 to 70 oC), and the ratio of ethanol (2.5 to 7.5%). Brunner’s and Esquivel’s models were applied to evaluate the extraction rate. The best-operating conditions, in the tested range, were 30 MPa, 40 °C, and 4.64% of ethanol ratio, … Show more

“…The contrary results from catechin recovery was due to the vapor/sublimation pressure effect not dominant throughout the extraction process. Hence, epicatechin were difficult to dilute in the SEE (Bodoira et al, 2017; Putra, Rizkiyah, Aziz, et al, 2022; Redzuan et al, 2021).…”

“…Brunner's and Esquivel's models were used for the investigation of the extraction rate because they require fewer adjustable parameters and are simply fitted to experimental data 9 . Table 2 demonstrates that the findings of Brunner and Esquivel's model fit the global yield recovery from roselle using ScCO 2 .…”

“…Its usage in the domain of essences is very recent and extremely promising 6 . Previous study shows that this method is applied to extract Cleome coluteoides Boiss 7 , L. acanthodes 8 , peanut skin 9 , omega-3 from Dracocephalum kotschyi seed oil 10 and rosmarinic acid from Orthosiphon stamineus 11 .…”

“…One of the standout merits of SFE is its capacity to operate at relatively low temperatures, mitigating the risk of heat-sensitive bioactive compound degradation (Putra et al, 2018). Furthermore, supercritical CO 2 extraction is highly adaptable through manipulating pressure and temperature settings, facilitating the selective extraction of specific compounds while leaving undesired constituents behind.…”
