Extraction Optimization of Mucilage from Seeds of Mimosa pudica by Response Surface Methodology

Abstract: Mimosa pudica seed mucilage (MPM) is composed of glucuronoxylan, which is a swellable, pH-responsive and non-toxic biomaterial. Herein, we aimed to extract MPM from M. pudica seeds (MP seeds) to ascertain optimization of extraction conditions to get highest yield by response surface methodology, via Box-Behnken design (RSM-BBD). MPM was extracted from MP seeds by a hot water extraction method. The effects of four different parameters on the extraction yield of MPM were evaluated: pH of the extraction medium (1… Show more

“…The P -values of the “Model” and “Lack of Fit” were <.0001 and .7480, respectively, which proved that the model possessed remarkable significance and the error was negligible. 34 Also, the statistical indicators of coefficient of determination ( R 2 ), adjusted coefficient of determination (Adj R 2 ), predicted coefficient of determination (Pred R 2 ), and coefficient of variation (C.V.%) values were 0.9961, 0.9921, 0.9838, and 0.70, respectively, and the difference between Pred R 2 and Adj R 2 was 0.0083 < 0.1, which also revealed a good correlation between the predicted purification effect of ATPs and the actual purification effect. 35 The linear coefficient (X 2 ), interaction coefficient (X 1 X 4 ), and quadratic coefficients (X 1 2 , X 2 2 , X 3 2 , and X 4 2 ) on the purification of ATPs were very significant ( P < .01).…”

“…Therefore, the model's significance was indicated by the Model F-value of 6.29. 8,55 However, based on several previous researches, such as, 56,57 it was found that a reduced model must be used to obtain the best Response surface methodology correctly.…”
