Colorimetric determination of total phenolic contents in ionic liquid extracts by paper microzones and digital camera

In recent years, there has been a growing interest in the extraction of phenolic compounds from plants by using ionic liquid (IL) solutions. In this study, a colorimetric paper microzone assay was developed to analyse total phenolic contents in five imidazolium based IL solutions with concentrations 50-100 mM. Nine herb methanol extracts and two herb IL extracts were used for validation. The method validation parameters were as follows: the linear range for gallic acid and catechin in BMImAc, EMMImSO 4 , BMImCl, BMImBF 4 and C 12 MImCl aqueous solutions was between 0.25 and 2 mM, with the exception of catechin in a C 12 MImCl aqueous solution where it remained between 0.25 and 1.5 mM. LOD and LOQ values were determined for gallic acid and catechin IL solutions, whose IL structure and concentration were varied.In cases of all ionic liquids the determined LOD and LOQ values remained between 0.08-0.15 mM and 0.16-0.28 mM, respectively. The method was successfully validated against UV-Vis spectroscopy.

A method for producing ferulic acid by ultrasound-assisted, homogeneous, base-catalyzed hydrolysis of γ-oryzanol was developed. Experiments were conducted using various reaction temperatures and ratios of γ-oryzanol to base catalyst in both homogeneous and heterogeneous systems. The reaction performed without ultrasound under the homogeneous conditions of potassium hydroxide/γ-oryzanol ratio (wt/wt) 20 : 1 and 75°C gave a ferulic acid yield of 83.3% in 3 h. Acceleration of the homogeneous reaction using ultrasound irradiation at 20 (horn type) and 200 kHz (planar type) was explored by evaluating the kinetic parameters. At 30°C, the ratios of ultrasonic irradiation at low (20 kHz, 50 W) and high (200 kHz, 50 W) frequencies versus those of the heating method increased by 2.0- and 1.4-fold in comparison with those at 60°C, respectively. The contribution of ultrasonic irradiation (50 W) to the hydrolysis reaction decreased with increase of temperature. However, irradiation at 20 kHz and a power of 180 W gave a 94% ferulic acid yield at 60°C in 3 h. These results indicate that the use of low frequency (horn type and high-power irradiation) enabled yields higher than 90% to be obtained.

CIECZE JONOWE W PROCESACH EKSTRAKCJI METALI I ZWIĄZKÓW ORGANICZNYCH Z PRODUKTÓW SPOŻYWCZYCHS t r e s z c z e n i e Ciecze jonowe są nowymi rozpuszczalnikami o unikatowych właściwościach fizykochemicznych. Charakteryzują się szerokim zakresem temperatury, w której występują w stanie ciekłym, połączonym z wysoką stabilnością termiczną. Wykazują zdolność rozpuszczania substancji organicznych, nieorganicznych, a nawet niektórych polimerów. Bardzo niska prężność par tych związków, nawet w podwyższonej temperaturze i pod obniżonym ciśnieniem, oraz możliwość wielokrotnego wykorzystania poprzez recykling powoduje, że stanowią "zieloną" alternatywę dla tradycyjnych rozpuszczalników.Ciecze jonowe są stosowane głównie w procesach ekstrakcji, zarówno z fazy wodnej, jak i z bardziej złożonych mieszanin, jakimi są produkty spożywcze. Ekstrakcja z fazy wodnej w wielu przypadkach polega jedynie na zastąpieniu rozpuszczalnika organicznego cieczą jonową, z kolei ekstrakcja z próbek żywności wymaga ich wstępnego przygotowania, np. poprzez trawienie. Cieczami jonowymi można skutecznie ekstrahować jony metali, kwasy karboksylowe, barwniki, pestycydy oraz związki biologicznie aktywne z roślin leczniczych.Słowa kluczowe: ciecze jonowe, "zielone rozpuszczalniki", procesy ekstrakcji, produkty spożywcze WprowadzenieWymagania dotyczące ochrony środowiska, formułowane zgodnie z koncepcją "zielonej chemii", powodują konieczność zastępowania dotychczas stosowanych lotnych rozpuszczalników organicznych (VOC -volatile organic compounds) takimi, które nie stanowią zagrożenia dla środowiska i zdrowia człowieka [5,23]. Rozpuszczalnikiem spełniającym te wymagania jest woda. Niestety, niewielka liczba substancji organicznych rozpuszczalnych w wodzie znacznie ogranicza jej zastosowanie.
