“…Squarize et al [31] found a negative relationship between PTEN expression and the grade in oral squamous cell carcinomas and reported that PTEN was an independent prognostic factor. In a study reporting that there was a decrease in PTEN expression in laryngeal tumors, there was no relationship between PTEN expression and tumor localization, tumor size, differentiation and stage [32]. We could not find a correlation between PTEN expression and tumor size, differentiation, lymph node metastasis and invasion depth.…”

“…In numerous cancer cell lines and primary tumours, mutations in the PTEN gene and loss of heterozygosity or homozygous deletions have been found (Cairns et al, 1997;Guldberg et al, 1997;Guney et al, 2007). As described earlier, PTEN regulates AKT activity through dephosphorylation of PIP3 (Sarbassov et al, 2005).…”

“…The PTEN/MMAC1 was originally described as a tumour suppressor in a large variety of malignant tumours (Li et al, 1997;Panigrahi et al, 2004;Guney et al, 2007). In numerous cancer cell lines and primary tumours, mutations in the PTEN gene and loss of heterozygosity or homozygous deletions have been found (Cairns et al, 1997;Guldberg et al, 1997;Guney et al, 2007).…”

“…Data in the literature on the association of PTEN with clinicopathologic parameters and LNM are highly controversial. One previous study (Sullu et al, 2010) found no significant relationship between PTEN expression and tumor size, differentiation, depth of invasion, and LNM, and in a study reporting that there was a decrease in PTEN expression in laryngeal tumors, there was no relationship between PTEN expression and tumor localization, tumor size, differentiation, and stage (Guney et al, 2007). Also, our study, in spite of documenting an association between PTEN expression and invasion of both the cartilage and the muscle, revealed no significant association between PTEN and E-cadherin expression, although PTEN has been previously shown to interact with cell adhesion complexes and to stabilize intercellular junctions (Kotelevets et al, 2001).…”
