Expression of lncRNA MEG3 in asthma with different phenotypes and its relationship with course of disease

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to explore the application value of lncRNA MEG3 in lung cancer. From March 2017 to March 2019, 119 asthma patients and 125 healthy people undergoing physical examination in the same period were selected as the research objects. The levels of lncRNA MEG3 in the peripheral blood of the two groups were compared, and the predictive value of MEG3 for asthma as well as the differences in different inflammatory phenotypes were analyzed. The expression of MEG3 was low in asthma patients (… Show more

“…Another study illuminates that lncRNA MEG3 induces pulmonary microvascular endothelial cell apoptosis via the upregulation of caspase‐3 activity, reduction of Bcl‐2 level, and elevation of Bax in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease 11 . Meanwhile, lncRNA MEG3 has a good predictive value for disease risk of respiratory disease asthma 12 . In addition, lncRNA MEG3 upregulates IL‐1β abundance and exaggerates inflammatory responses in alveolar macrophages and lung epithelial cells, which is involved in the progression of sepsis, 13 and clinically, lncRNA MEG3 is proved to be associated with higher mortality risk in sepsis patients 14,15 .…”

“…Some of them were also measured in our stage I study. In our discovery cohort we did not find differences in any comparison in the expression of TUG1, MALAT1, NEAT1 and MEG3 , all of them were found to be associated with asthma in different studies [ 30 – 33 ]. Although we measured the expression of these lncRNAs in the blood of only a small number of subjects (6 with mild-moderate, 6 with severe asthma and 6 controls), the lack of differences suggests that they are possibly not suitable for general asthma blood biomarkers.…”
