Expression of Ki67 and CD105 as Proliferation and Angiogenesis Markers in Salivary Gland Tumors

Abstract: Objective: To investigate the association between CD105 and tumor cell proliferation in salivary gland tumors. Methods: In this study, 59 samples of salivary tumors from Khalili Hospital archive, including 20 cases of pleomorphic adenoma (PA), 20 cases of mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) and 19 cases of adenoid cystic carcinoma, as well as 10 cases of normal salivary gland tissue, were reviewed by immunohistochemistry (IHC) for CD105 and Ki67 staining. Results: CD105 positive vessels were absent in normal saliva… Show more

“…It is mainly located in the cell nucleus, plays an important role of maintaining the structure of the DNA stable in mitosis. It has no expression in the G0 phase of the cell cycle (Haroon et al, 2013), begins to appear in the G1 phase, increases gradually in the S phase and G2 phase (Tadbir et al, 2012), reaches the peak in the M phase, and declines rapidly in the late stage of cell division. Ki67 gene is considered as a kind of proto-oncogene at present, which locates on chromosome 10q25 and its molecular weight is 345000 (Ye et al, 2010).…”

“…Ki-67, a non-histone protein, is a DNA-binding nuclear protein expressed throughout the cell cycle in proliferating cells, but not in quiescent (G0) cells (Tadbir et al, 2012;Fakhrjou et al, 2013). Ki-67 has been used to distinguish growing cells from non-growing cells (Haroon et al, 2013;Dang et al, 2014;Huang and Chen, 2014).…”

“…This is explained by its high affinity to bind TGF-ß which is considered one of the most important proteins involved in angiogenesis and is highly expressed in immature ECs. This is in contrast to other panendothelial markers which are not specific, not only because they are not expressed in ECs, but because they also react with neoplastic as well as with stromal cells (Nassiri et al, 2011 andTadbir et al, 2012).…”
