Expression of cyclooxygenase-1 and 2 in chronic tonsillitis

Abstract: Activated B and T cells express COX-1 and COX-2 in paraffin-embedded tissue sections of chronic tonsillitis. Further studies need to be performed to elucidate expression of COX enzymes and their immunologic role in tonsil diseases. They will play an important role in the treatment of chronic tonsillitis. Additional studies are warranted to study the effects of NSAIDs and selective COX-2 inhibitors in chronic tonsillitis.

“…IL-IF 10 shares characteristics of the IL-l RA family, including key amino acid consensus sequences and a similar genomic structure (61-65). IL-IFIO mRNA is expressed in several tissue such as heart, placenta, fetal liver, spleen, thymus, and activated B cells of the human tonsil (66)(67)(68)(69)(70). The expression in a variety of immune tissues and similarity to IL-IRa suggest a role of IL-l FlO in the inflammatory response and host defense (52,(71)(72)(73).…”
