Expression level of pre-B-cell leukemia transcription factor 2 (PBX2) as a prognostic marker for gingival squamous cell carcinoma

Abstract: Abstract:Objective: In this study, we investigated the interrelationship between clinicopathologic findings and pre-B-cell leukemia transcription factor 2 (PBX2) expression in gingival squamous cell carcinoma (GSCC). Methods: Expression level of PBX2 was immunohistochemically examined in 66 GSCC subjects (30 men and 36 women) with ages ranging from 42 to 85 (median 64.5) years, in which staining intensity in tumor cells was categorized as either weaker (level 1) or equal to/stronger (level 2) than that in the … Show more

“…In another study, Qiu et al showed that PBX2 was significantly upregulated in gingival squamous cell carcinoma (GSCC) samples, and its high expression was closely associated with poor disease‐free survival (DFS) ( p < 0.05) and OS ( p < 0.01). Furthermore, GSCC patients with low PBX2 expression showed a better OS ( p < 0.05) and DFS ( p < 0.001) rates compared to those with high expression at poor and moderate differentiations 112 . These data indicated that PBX2 expression possess great potential to be a new prognostic biomarker for GSCC.…”

“…PBX2 has been reported to mediate the antiapoptotic function of miR-1915-3p in lung cancer (47). High expression of PBX2 has been identified as a poor prognostic indicator in gingival squamous cell carcinoma and non-small cell lung cancer (48,49). PBX3 has been suggested to be the target of multiple miRs, including miR-320a, miR-129-5p, and miR-526b, and mediates the antitumor effects of these miRs (50-52).…”

“…One of the most prevalent cancers of the oral cavity is SCC. Expression pattern evaluation of Pbx2 (both mRNA and protein) in patients with gingival SCC (GSCC) revealed that Pbx2 was upregulated and could be a useful prognostic marker in these patients (Qiu et al, 2012). The overexpression of Pbx2 is associated with tumor size, stage, and metastasis, as well as a high expression of the valosincontaining protein (VCP) in GSCC cells (Qiu et al, 2012).…”
