Expression analysis of four long noncoding RNAs in breast cancer

Abstract: Breast cancer is a molecularly heterogeneous disease which necessitates a search for markers to provide a more specific classification of this disorder. Long noncoding RNAs as the important subset of noncoding transcripts have been shown to be involved in tumorigenic processes. So, they may be used as markers for early detection of cancer and evaluation of cancer prognosis. In addition, they can be applied as therapeutic targets. In this study, we analyzed expression of four long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) namel… Show more

“…Besides, elevated ANRIL expression restrains the expression of INK4a, INK4b, and ARF at the late-stage of DNA damage response. A recent study has demonstrated its up-regulation in malignant breast tissues compared with adjacent non-cancerous tissues with a higher expression in estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor, and HER2 triple-negative samples [33] . Another recent study has shown the overexpression of ANRIL in SOC tissues compared with normal controls and its correlation with advanced FIGO stage, high histological grade, lymph node metastasis, and poor prognosis [14] .…”

“…ANRIL have been recently shown to be located in the region of 9p21, which is a hotspot for diseaseassociated polymorphisms [33] . It regulates the expression of its neighboring tumor suppressors CDKN2A/B through epigenetic modulation.…”

“…Such effect has been associated with alterations in the expression of certain transcripts including long non-cod ing RNAs (lncRNAs) in a way that these lncRNAs have been suggested as skin cancer biomarkers which are secreted into the blood or urine via exosomes [10]. In general, lncRNAs comprise an important portion of human transcriptome with fundamental roles in virtually every aspect of cell physiology [11]; their aberrant expression has been associated with pathologic conditions such as cancer [12][13][14][15][16][17][18]. More specifically, VDRregulated lncRNAs has been shown to participate in imprinting, tumor suppression and invasion/ metastasis which implies their involvement in the protective effect of VDR signal ing against skin cancer [10].…”

“…Several researches have focused on the exploration of gene expression patterns among these subtypes to find a biologically relevant biomarker in breast cancer (2)(3)(4)(5). The expression pattern analysis of noncoding RNAs has also been the focus of researchers (6,7).…”
