“…Also, Harangozo and Zilahy (2015) further submitted that the transparent communication and availability of information influences a favourable response among the stakeholder involved in any innovative project. Despite the fact that the respondents ranked transparent dissemination of information as the third least influential variable, Geng et al (2010) and Oliveira-Neto et al (2015) emphasised its importance to achieving any sustainability objective such as indoor environmental education.…”

“…This categorisation is in harmony with the submission of Koybasi and Ugurlu (2017) that emphasised that structural bureaucracy within any organisation should not be placed in a mysterious “black box” set aside to deal with environmental pressures, but rather effectively managed. Oliveira-Neto et al (2015) opined that a stakeholder's reactiveness, or the lack thereof, in their objective function towards prevailing environmental issues influences how their institution deals with the environmental issues in question. Zeng et al (2010) stressed the importance of financial monitoring of any developmental policy programme as a measure to reduce additional funding request and to optimise the overall financial performance of the institution.…”

“…Table 1 details the taxonomy of the critical roles played by stakeholders in the management of organisational initiatives. In the quest of fulfilling an organisational objective, the agenda-setting forum allows for effective planning and coordination of the identified problem is acknowledges and discussed by various stakeholders (Chen and Mobahan, 2010; Oliveira Neto et al , 2015). Similarly, the promotion of multiple forums of discussion fosters innovation (George et al , 2013) and forges collaboration among stakeholders to evaluate and develop possible eco-efficient solutions or processes that inform the action plan (Yuksel, 2008; Gaziulusoy et al , 2012).…”
PurposeThis study aims to explore the influential role stakeholder play in the management of indoor environmental quality (IEQ) in facilities of higher education institutions (HEIs) in South Africa. By defining the indoor environmental challenges facing HEI's, an alternative redress to these challenges can be achieved through stakeholder management.Design/methodology/approachThe study adopted a quantitative survey approach which was informed by a post-positivism philosophical stance. The closed-ended questionnaire survey was used to gather views from academic and administrative staff who were employed in various HEIs across South Africa. The literature review revealed 13 influential stakeholder management roles which were explored. The gathered data was analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics that evaluated the influential role stakeholder play in the management of IEQ in HEIs.FindingsExploratory factor analysis (EFA) revealed three core categories of stakeholder management roles to being community engagement and awareness, organisational commitment and objective function. These roles play an integral part of overhauling the current IEQ conditions in HEIs, which subsequently improves the quality of education through efficient academic and administrative performance.Originality/valueThe study contributes to the body of knowledge as it reveals that HEI, particularly in developing countries like South Africa, can improve their current IEQ conditions through adopting critical stakeholder management roles. Also, this study provides further theoretical background for future research in the area of stakeholder management which has been lacking in previous IEQ studies.

“…Stakeholder salience indicates the degree that would affect managersʼ decisions for prioritising stakeholders' competing claims and demands (Mitchell et al 2011, Neville et al 2011, Erdiaw-Kwasie et al 2015, and depends on the managers' perceptions thereof. Therefore, the most important prerequisite for determining stakeholdersʼ salience is recognition and realistic understanding of their salience attributes (Mitchell et al 2011, De Oliveira Neto et al 2015, Järlström et al 2016. Due to the dynamism of the megaproject environment, these attributes are changing over time; therefore, managers should identify and then update stakeholders' salience Oppong 2017, PMI 2017).…”
Stakeholder satisfaction in megaprojects has always been a critical concern in research and practice due to the dynamism, complexity, and uncertainty of the various relationships between the project and the stakeholder community. The most successful outcome for a megaproject would be achieved when it creates values fairly for stakeholder community to satisfy them. Therefore, due to the resource constraints, megaproject should create values for stakeholders proportional to the values that they put into it. This article proposes a framework for priority-setting in stakeholder engagement based on the balance of mutual value creation between the megaproject and stakeholder community. In this way, we developed an innovative and systematic approach by drawing on "stakeholder theory", "value creation theory", "expectation disconfirmation theory", and "fuzzy set theory" while adopting from Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) concepts. This study contributes to the theory and practice of engineering management by examining stakeholder engagement to satisfy them fairly in megaprojects. Particularly, this study categorises stakeholders based on the proportional of their salience to expectations to three main types: "Modest", "Fair" and "Demanding". This typology will provide a road map for managers to prioritise the responses to stakeholders' expectations. Finally, we applied the proposed approach for a real-case of mega construction project (MCP).

Sustainable Production and Consumption Policy: a study from the perspective of fields of strategic action. 2019. 215 f. PhD Thesis (Postgraduate Program in Sciences). School of Arts, Sciences and Humanities, University of São Paulo, São Paulo, 2019. Corrected version. In 2003, an international initiative to develop sustainable production and consumption policies, called the "Marrakesh Process", was created by the UN. The Federal Government of Brazil adhered to this protocol in 2007 and since then has been developing initiatives to engage several state and non-state actors. This thesis aimed to investigate how and why the concepts of sustainability are being incorporated into the discourses of social actors about sustainable production and consumption. The general objective was to investigate the convergences and divergences between the actors' discourses on sustainability in the Brazilian context. Based on the Theory of Strategic Fields of Action, the research mapped the field of sustainable production and consumption, identified actors and their dynamics. From an analytical framework that correlates the roles of different social actors with the concepts of "strong" and "weak" sustainability, and actor's performance related to sustainable production and consumption, it was possible to describe their positions and dynamics in the field.Sociological discourse analysis was conducted over the sustainable production and consumpti...
