This article highlights the use and importance of action research in creating a new positive body image program. The purpose of the larger action research project was to design, test, and implement a positive body image program by working with a core group of diverse stakeholders from an exercise facility. Stakeholders included older adults (aged 55þ), people with physical disabilities, and those with cardiovascular disease or risk factors, populations rarely included in the body image literature, particularly in program design. The resulting program was built to teach members of the facility about body image (e.g. its definition, causes, and influences), positive body image, and how to manage their own body image experiences and be critical of the Western beauty ideal. The project is outlined with emphasis on the development of the program

This study analyzes the influence that experienced users of university resources might have as narrative sources of information for other students in the process of choosing their schools. Informative videos about the benefits of studying at the university provide a reference model. In these videos, a group of young people present their views and explain their reasons for choosing the university in which they are pursuing their degrees; the various narrators detail all the resources available. This study investigates whether the individual identifiers of these narrators (e.g., gender, age, physical appearance, nonverbal gestures such as smiling, posture) influence perceptions of the credibility of the information they provide. Among a sample of 150 students in their last year of pre-university training, the results demonstrate that the students' ability to identify with the narrators provides information and arouses emotions that inform their perceptions of reliability and therefore their consumption choices. None of these predictors appear to serve as determinants that can be generalized, but if emotional attitudes in response to narratives about the topic (i.e., the university) are positive, then they prompt a change in attitude toward that reference topic too.

Imagem corporal em idosos do Brasil: uma revisão sistemática

A insatisfação com a imagem corporal tem sido alvo de muitos estudos conduzidos no Brasil, porém, em relação aos idosos a disponibilidade de estudos parece limitada. Esse estudo objetivou sintetizar as evidências disponíveis na literatura acerca dos estudos sobre a imagem corporal de idosos brasileiros. Para isso, foram conduzidas buscas sistemáticas nas bases de dados Literatura Latino-americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde (LILACS) e Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO). Foram adotados os critérios de inclusão: artigos científicos publicados nos últimos 10 anos (2008 a 2018), com amostras cujos idosos possuíam 60 anos ou mais. A busca inicial resultou em 141 manuscritos e ao final da revisão 11 artigos foram incluídos. Observou-se que os estudos conduzidos até o presente momento provêm informações apenas de idosos das regiões Sul, Sudeste e Nordeste. O tamanho das amostras variou de oito a 806 idosos, sendo a insatisfação com a imagem corporal avaliada, predominantemente, por meio de escalas de silhuetas demostrando prevalências elevadas de insatisfação. Diante da endogenia observada nos achados, mais estudos são necessários no Brasil, sobretudo, com amostras maiores e que envolvam idosos das regiões Centro-Oeste e Norte.
