With the expansion of China's manufacturing export trade to the countries along "the Belt and Road", the energy consumption and carbon emissions of China's manufacturing process from production to export caused by these countries will also increase. This paper adopts the MRIO model to calculate the export embodied carbon emissions of China's manufacturing export trade from 2000 to 2015, and further adopts the LMDI method to study the driving factors of export embodied carbon emissions of China's manufacturing export trade from three aspects: scale effects, structural effects and technical effects. The results indicate an increasing trend of the export embodied carbon emissions from 2000 to 2015. Scale effect has a pulling effect on the export embodied carbon emissions, while structural and technical effects have a restraining effect mostly on manufacturing. Therefore, in order to facilitate the entire process in the manufacturing chain of China's manufacturing industry, which includes the acquisition of raw materials, manufacturing, and transportation, and to achieve green development, it is necessary for China to optimize the manufacturing export structure and reduce the carbon emissions intensity to reduce the embodied carbon emissions of manufacturing industries to the countries along "the Belt and Road".

Globalization and international trade has strongly affected world’s economy in the recent decades. The importance of emissions loads distribution between countries participating in the supply chains is steadily growing. In the highly fragmented global supply chain structure, with the consumption and production separated geographically and politically, it is difficult to capture the distribution of carbon emission burden within the global production processes. Several recent scientific studies have emphasized that CO2 emissions embodied in international trade processes should be addressed. The CO2 emissions up to now are mostly evaluated on the base of domestic emission accounts. To address this research gap, our study applies multi-regional input-output (MRIO) method for the estimation of the CO2 emissions embodied in the EU clothing imports. The study evaluates carbon emissions of the EU clothing imports and provides suggestions for companies and policy makers. Our results show, that the EU has not reduced CO2 emissions t instead has outsourced them. MRIO and triangulation methods were used to evaluate the EU clothing sector embodied carbon emissions in imports from 2000 to 2016. CO2 emission reduction goal can be achieved by implementing the proposed consumption based emission accounting framework additionally to the country’s emission inventory. Our results may help businesses and policy makers to establish more efficient strategies towards the EU’s carbon emissions.

Since World War-II, the COVID-19 pandemic is considered the most serious challenge faced by the mankind. This pandemic has not only adversely affected the health systems but has also disrupted the manufacturing and industrial sectors and thus leading to low CO 2 emissions. Reduction in the carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) gas emission has been noticed nearly everywhere in the world due to shutdown of industries and lockdown imposed by governments as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic. In the year 2019, around 37 billion tons of CO 2 emitted globally that has been reduced by 9% in the same period (January to July) for the year 2020 as consequence of COVID-19 pandemic. The Social Cost of Carbon (SCC) of a country reflects the economic damages caused by per ton increase in the CO 2 emissions. Economic and environmental benefits are associated with the reduction of CO 2 emissions as a result of COVID-19 and their estimation is the main theme of the study. Coupling reduction in the CO 2 emissions to the Social Cost of Carbon gives economic benefit for a country. The research presented investigates the long term economic and environmental benefits associated with the reduction in the CO 2 emissions for various regions of the world. The economic benefit due to the reduction in the of the CO 2 emissions as consequence of the COVID-19 to global economy is estimated as 650 billion US Dollars for the period of 6 months (from January to July). The study mainly focuses on the countries that contribute the high percentage of CO 2 emissions to the atmosphere. The first half of year 2020 (from January 2020 to July 2020) is taken into consideration because lockdown was mainly followed in that period. Further, within the country the sectors that contribute the high percentage of CO 2 emissions are also taken into account.
