Exploring the Association Between Infectious Diarrheal Diseases and Sea Surface Temperatures — Coastal Areas of China, 2009–2018

Abstract: What is already known about this topic?Coastal areas of China have a higher reported incidence of other infectious diarrheal diseases (OIDD; excluding cholera, dysentery, typhoid, and paratyphoid) than inland areas of China. What is added by this report? The incidence of OIDD in high latitude coastal provincial-level administrative divisions (PLADs) near Bohai Sea was positively correlated with sea surface temperatures (SSTs), while in coastal PLADs near the South China Sea was negatively correlated. What are t… Show more

“…Recent worldwide estimations suggest that diarrhea kills around 3.2 million under five children each year with a per child average of 3-4 acute chapters per year. Although simple and effective treatment measures are obtainable which can markedly reduce diarrhea associated morbidity and mortality, yet in developing countries due to poor hygienic practices in the communal, diarrhea continues to be a major public health problem [3]. Reduction of morbidity related with acute childhood diarrhea is an important public health goal in Indian children population [4].…”

“…Currently, spatial information technology has been widely applied in the study of infectious diseases surveillance and prediction. Earth observation is levered for enhanced infectious diseases monitoring ( 2 ). Geospatial big data is used for measuring and evaluating the impact of the environmental changes on human health ( 3 ).…”

Xu M et al estimated relationship between ocean environment and infectious diarrheal disease ( 6 ).
