Exploring the Assessment List for Trustworthy AI in the Context of Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems

Abstract: Artificial Intelligence (AI) is increasingly used in critical applications. Thus, the need for dependable AI systems is rapidly growing. In 2018, the European Commission appointed experts to a High-Level Expert Group on AI (AI-HLEG). AI-HLEG defined Trustworthy AI as 1) lawful, 2) ethical, and 3) robust and specified seven corresponding key requirements. To help development organizations, AI-HLEG recently published the Assessment List for Trustworthy AI (ALTAI). We present an illustrative case study from apply… Show more

“…We consider these seven ethical challenges as the most pressing of the concerns created by the use of AI in healthcare. Some of these challenges also have been raised with the growing use of AI in other application areas, particularly the automotive [18] and robotics [19] domains.…”

“…The ML model test cases provide results for both 1) the entire verification data set and 2) eight slices of the data set that are deemed particularly important. The selection of slices was motivated by either an analysis of the available technology or ethical considerations, especially from the perspective of AI fairness (Borg et al, 2021b). Consequently, we measure the performance for the following slices of data.…”

“…Com relação às ferramentas, o checklist se destaca como forma de avaliação com base em listas e requisitos legais. Nessa perspectiva, tem-se o trabalho de Borg et al (2021), que faz uma análise crítica da lista de avaliação de inteligência artificial confiável, proposta pela União Europeia, e de Vakkuri et al (2020), que propõem a utilização de anotações em cartões para cada decisão ética tomada durante o processo de desenvolvimento relacionando essa decisão com um requisito.…”
