The growth of social media has given rise to many informal online communities. In these communities, people communicate, make connections, exchange information and transfer knowledge without time or location restrictions. The purpose of this exploratory study was to investigate both lurkers' and posters' perceptions of learning in Reddit-based education-related communities. A mixed-method approach was used to obtain an overall understanding of how members perceived learning and the differences between posters and lurkers. Eighty-two participants (43 posters and 39 lurkers) were recruited from education-related subreddits and nine of them (5 posters and 4 lurkers) were interviewed. The results showed that there was no significant difference in the perceptions of learning between posters and lurkers. Both lurkers and posters believed that they have learned in these communities, and both defined learning in these communities as changing behaviours or thinking or applying what they have learned to real-life situations. Although both lurkers and posters reported having learned in the communities, qualitative analysis of the interview data indicated that posters demonstrated higher learning levels than lurkers. The findings of this study offer implications for further research into how members perceive learning in informal social media-based communities.

Many online learning experiences integrate some form of dialogic interaction among instructors and learners. However, the degree to which these individuals come to a mutual understanding of their task and topic, a phenomenon called intersubjectivity, often remains a question. This systematic review of online learning research examines 48 peer-reviewed journal articles published between 2004 and 2021, looking at the overall trajectory of the research conversation across time, disciplines, modality and learning activities; major trends in methods, and focus; and interconnectedness. Findings suggest a dispersed body of literature, with some small groups of interconnected work but little cohesion or traction as a research field. This review has implications for future researchers in this area, who are encouraged to synthesize across this body of research and work together to establish and pursue an agenda for the field that will not only further inquiry in this area but also lead to practical knowledge about learning activity design and facilitation that is useful to online instructors.

This research examines international university students' experiences learning Turkish idioms in context-based learning (CBL) digital environment. Twelve international students studying at Fırat University and nine students whose native language does Turkish voluntarily participate in the study. In this study, in which quantitative and qualitative data were collected, the embedded mixed method research design was used to examine how individual and collaborative efforts of international students in context-based learning-based environments support their learning of Turkish idioms. Four sources were identified for the data of the study: (1) log data, (2) focus group interview data, (3) Turkish idiom achievement test, and (4) follow-up interview. Analysis of its data proved that the context-based e-learning environment constitutes an effective language-learning process. The study presents a very effective presentation of a context-based learning environment in the digital environment and the change in student behaviors and performances. This study, which shows the social constructivist approach in general and the effectiveness of CBL in particular, advocates the importance of peer support and collaboration.
