Explanatory models of somatoform disorder patients attending a psychiatry outpatient clinic: A study from North India

Abstract: Most of the patients with somatoform disorder attribute their symptoms to psychological factors. It also becomes imperative to understand the physical symptoms in somatoform disorders from the sociocultural aspects of patients.

“…If the treatment is not as effective as was anticipated, they will be even more likely to blame it on their doctor and turn to other types of informal (unconventional) treatment ( 29 , 30 ).
