Experimentally investigating the degradations of the GaN PA indexes under different temperature conditions

Abstract: In order to understand the PA's indexes, degradations with respect to the temperature changes before suppressing such degradations or compensating those temperature effects of the PAs. The degradations of the gallium nitride (GaN) PA indexes under different temperature conditions with a fixed relative humidity of 85% are investigated experimentally. The S21, power‐added efficiency (PAE) and output power of the PA degrade with the increase of the temperature. The main reasons for these degradations are discusse… Show more

“…A 100 kHz to 50 GHz pre-amplifier was used for linearity measurements to amplify the input RF signal because the design has an ultra-high IP1dB. In order to obtain general performance, a room temperature of 27 ℃ was set for measurement [ 24 ].…”

“…For example, when PAs are used in wireless transmitter arrays (e.g., multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) or radar arrays) [ 5 ], the temperature of the PA is not only determined by its self-heating [ 5 , 7 , 8 ] but is also affected by thermal coupling with nearby PAs [ 9 ], leading to degradation of its specifications. In severe cases, this will lead to the failure of the wireless communication system in which it is located [ 10 ]. Therefore, to know the relationship between the failure of the wireless communication system and the degradation of the PA specification, it is necessary to investigate the relationship between the degradation of PA specifications and temperature variations.…”

“…1 summarizes the capacity-reach for C band IM/DD optical systems over dispersion-uncompensated links. The most commonly used DSP algorithms include the decision feedback equalizer [1,2], Tomlinson-Harashima precoding [3][4][5], maximum likelihood sequence estimation (MLSE) [6][7][8], neural network equalizer (NNE) [9] for the single-carrier modulation and adaptive bit and power loading (ABPL) [10,11] for the multi-carrier modulation. In our previous work, we proposed a 100Gbit/s multi-rate Nyquist-subcarrier modulation (SCM) signal with seven subcarriers over 50km standard single-mode fiber (SSMF) transmission [12].…”
