Experimental Study of Steel Reinforced Concrete (SRC) Joints

Abstract: This research analyzes the solution of reinforced concrete joints reinforced with steel sections, known as steel reinforced concrete (SRC). The aim is to verify the improvement of the ductile characteristics of steel reinforced concrete structures compared to conventional reinforced concrete structures. Another objective is to better understand the experimental behavior and thus be able to perform numerical simulations adjusted with the experimental ones. In addition, the behavior of reinforced concrete struct… Show more

“…For this purpose, extensive research has been conducted on different joint shear models which could be used for old, non-ductile, and non-code-conforming RC beam-column joints as reported in the literature. Some are: Theiss [32], Anderson et al [33], Hassan and Moehle [34], Kim and LaFave [35], Lowes et al [36], Montava et al [37]. Some of the main characteristics of old and non-ductile joints are: (1) lack of sufficient shear reinforcement, and (2) inadequate lap splice length in the joint panel zone.…”

“…To build the wireframe model, the module APDL of Ansys (Version 16.2 and 17.2, Company: Ansys Inc., Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, United States, 2015), whose research license is held at the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Alicante (Alicante, Spain). The intention was to simulate three prototypes (see Table 1): The experimental tests are detailed in Montava et al [17]. The first model, P03, aimed to describe reinforced concrete.…”
