Experimental study of mixing performance with the tridimensional rotational flow sieve tray under low Reynolds number

Abstract: The mixing of fluids at low Reynolds numbers is currently attracting widespread attention. This study proposes a novel type of static mixer, the tridimensional rotational flow sieve tray (TRST). The mixing performance of the laminar flow fluid was measured using the coefficient of variation (CoV). We investigated the effects of the number, mode, and spacing of the mixing elements; the main fluids, tracer Reynolds number, and tracer outlet position on the mixing performance of the TRST. The results showed that … Show more

“…It is also worth noting that in the literature, it is usually assumed that the system is considered homogeneous when CV is equal to or less than 5 % [ 46 ]. However, depending on the application, this limit value can vary widely and must be analyzed together with the data obtained.…”

“…In view of the excellent TRST performance in the fluid mixing and mass transfer enhancement of gas–liquid two‐phase systems, we envisioned that TRST could be used as a static mixer for mixing multicomponent liquid phase systems. Yang et al [ 43 ] conducted a preliminary study on the mixing performance of TRST by injecting a staining tracer into the needle tube and found that the TRST can significantly promote fluid mixing in the liquid phase system under rotational–perforated flow, and the mixing effect is better than that of the KSM. However, during the experiment, the outer cylinder of the TRST easily led to bubble accumulation, and the installation and positioning were inconvenient.…”
