Experimental Determination of Thermal Conductivity and Diffusivity of New Building Insulating Materials

Abstract: The present study is performed within the framework of the program of thermal and energy regulation of new buildings in Tunisia. This work presented an experimental determination of the thermo physical properties of insulating materials used in building. For this purpose, a new experimental apparatus was constructed according to the Tunisian standards. An analytical method is used in determining the thermal conductivity, and two analytical models are used to determine the thermal diffusivity. The obtained valu… Show more

“…Moreover, 3 ′ K increases with the SS content. The main reason for the increase is that the number of hydration reaction products is reduced at all stages of the reaction because of the increase in SS content, resulting in larger porosity in the system [9], lower resistance to ion diffusion, and delayed initiation of the diffusion mechanism.…”

“…Over the years, the rapid development of iron and steel metallurgy has aggravated the resource consumption, energy consumption, and waste discharge problems [1][2][3]. By conducting in-depth investigations in the field of industrial solid waste, researchers determined the pozzolanic activity of steel slag (SS), slag, tailings and other kinds of industrial solid waste, and used their findings to prepare building materials.…”

“…The researchers are increasingly engaged in the study and characterization of NM, widespread and easily available: their behavior with respect to thermal stresses, their strength and durability within cementitious composite materials as fibers, are being investigated to allow use improving the behavior and mechanical energy as a result of external stresses [5].…”

“…Sustainable district heating serving the public buildings and the improvement of the materials used for construction [10] can have significant effect on reducing of the GHG emission and the air pollution [11]. A centralized local thermal energy system, which can produce hot and cold fluid, and then distribute them throughout the community, has a significant potential to contribute to solving society's energy challenges [12].…”
