Experimental data of cathodes manufactured in a convective dryer at the pilot-plant scale, and charge and discharge capacities of half-coin lithium-ion cells

Abstract: Megtec Systems pilot-plant scale continuous convective coater. The data was generated as part of an experimental design involving the following coating-drying process variables and ranges: comma bar gap, 80–140 µm; web speed, 0.5–1.5 m/min; coating ratio, 110–150%; drying temperature, 85–110 °C and drying air speed, 5–15 m/s. The manufacturing data include pre-calendered coating thickness, mass loading dry and wet, pre-calendered porosity, spatial autocorrelation and join counting (SAJC) Z … Show more

“…The solid content of the slurry was measured using a moisture analyser (Ohaus, MB120). Solid content, coating shear rate and viscosity at coating shear rate data for each of the experimental runs are presented in the Data in Brief accompanying paper [50]. To prevent defects during coatings due to large particles or clusters present in the slurry, quality checks were done using a Hegman (fineness of grind) gauge (see Data in Brief [50]).…”

“…Prior to assembly, the thickness and mass of each electrode disc used in the coin cells were measured using the same approach. The mean values of the corresponding measurements for each electrode strip and for each of the coin cells can be found in the accompanying paper [50].…”

“…Based on the previous results reported by Román-Ramírez, et al [15,21], an inscribed central composite design (ICCD) was chosen in the present study as part of the RSM. In a CCD, each factor contains 5 settings or levels, belonging to axial points, factorial points and the centre points [20].…”

“…Mass loadings wet and dry were recorded by the scanning MeSys Systems machine. The data were processed as described in a previous communication [21]. The final values of the mass loadings and their standard deviations can be found in the Online resource.…”

“…A comprehensive understanding of the relationship between the characteristics of the electrodes (cathode and anode) and the cells' electrochemical performance over a complete range of load-cycles and environmental conditions is necessary for a successful design but very hard to achieve [3]. This is due to the large number of electrode-related factors and control variables that have strong interdependencies with each other and with the performance indices of the cells [4][5][6][7][8]. The electrode characteristics at the microstructure level are the most decisive for the cell performance [9], and stability [10], where the microstructure here is referring to stochastic geometrical characteristics at the micrometre and sub-micrometre scales [11].…”
