Experimental and theoretical analysis of high-speed radial tire standing waves

Abstract: This study is based on the Tire and Rim Association (TRA) load formula, which introduced the relationship between static load and sinking force of the tire. It also established the mathematical model of the cord tension of any layer of the tire ring beam. A finite element model for a 195/65 R15 radial tire is established with the nonlinear analysis software ABAQUS, based on the tire structure and cord parameters. The calculated value from the TRA formula, simulated value and the experimental result demonstrate… Show more

“…It is obvious that the number of waves is smaller than in the previous case, Figure 6. The standing waves profile is similar to those observed in the experiments, [7], [23]. They attenuate significantly before reaching the leading edge of the contact region.…”

“…In addition, a diagram of the bearing reaction force, F, as a function of the tyre expansion due to the centrifugal load is shown in Figure 8. The diagram is very similar to the experimental one, [23]. In Figure 9, diagrams of both the ring expansion and the bearing reaction force as functions of the rotation speed are shown.…”

“…The tire carcass colloid and the cord and other skeleton materials are formed by mutual bonding, which causes the turn-up point of the skeleton layer such as the ply to easily cause the rubber to open and separate. This results in tire bulging and plastic deformation [12]. By simulating the longitudinal sliding process of the tire, the force analysis of the fetal crown ply, 1# belt ply and 1# ply in the tire frame material is carried out.…”

“…In such models, the tyre belt is typically modelled as a ring, whereas the tyre sidewalls are approximated by distributed radial stiffness. Nowadays, 3D FE models are ordinarily used for the verification of tyre designs, [14][15][16][17][18][19][20][21][22].…”
