Experimental and simulation investigation of effect of biodiesel‐diesel blend on performance, combustion, and emission characteristics of a diesel engine

Abstract: In order to reduce the harmful effect on the environment, using the oxygenated fuels such as biofuel blends as fuel has been on the spotlights for the internal combustion engines. For this rationale; the diesel engine operated with blends of sunflower biodiesel and diesel fuel (blending of 0%, 10%, 20%, and 100% biodiesel fuel with conventional diesel fuel). In this study, an experimental and numerical model for Heat release rate (HRR) and the characteristic performance of diesel engine such as cylinder pressu… Show more

“…The automatic oxidation is dominant in the oxidation of biodiesel, while the photosensitive oxidation reaction only plays a key role in the inducing oxidation period. Oxygen molecules can be divided into the ground state oxygen, 3 O 2 , and excited state oxygen, 1 O 2 . In the photosensitive oxidation reaction, the initiator excites 3 O 2 to 1 O 2 .…”

“…In 2018, Shanghai gas station could provide >30,000 tons of biodiesel made from waste cooking oils [2]. The molecular structure of biodiesel is RC (=O) OCH 3 , in which R represents alkyl or alkenyl. The length of carbon chains in biodiesel molecular is [17][18][19], and the molecular weight of biodiesel is very close to that of diesel.…”

“…Today, the development of power units with low environmental impact has become one of the most exciting challenges in automotive technology. 1 In fact, advanced combustion strategies about the internal combustion engines (ICEs) are the most challenging approaches to reach better fuel economy and lower exhaust emissions. 2,3 In recent decades, ecological concerns along with the rapid reduction of fossil fuel reserves have prompted many countries to pass legislation aimed at reducing vehicle pollution and consumption.…”
