Experimental and Numerical Study of the Effects of Geometric Appendance Elements on Energy Dissipation over Stepped Spillway

Abstract: In the stepped spillway, the steps, by providing an artificial roughening bed, dissipate the flow of energy more than other types of spillways, so the construction costs for stilling basin are reduced. However, what is important in this type of spillway is increasing the effectiveness of steps in the rate of energy dissipation. The present study deals with experimental and numerical simulations regarding the influence of geometric appendance elements on the steps and its impact on the energy dissipation perfor… Show more

“…In the present study, the Re-Normalized Group (RNG) turbulence model was selected. The reason for using this turbulence model is its ability to simulate a flow with a large computational mesh, good performance in simulating flow separation, superior results with sudden strain and curvature, as well as success in previous numerical studies [16][17][18][19][20].…”

“…As the Reynolds number range of the present study is between 38,986 to 582,857. The current is turbulent in all models, so the Reynolds number's dimensional parameter can be ignored [17,34,35]. Parameters x/H and θ were also eliminated due to their constant values.…”
