Laboratory Investigation of Hydraulic Parameters on Inclined Drop Equipped with Fishway Elements

Abstract: This study aims to provide a way to increase the energy dissipation of flow in the inclined drop with environmental and economic considerations. Eighty-one experiments were performed on three types of simple inclined drop and inclined drop equipped with hole and without hole fishway elements with a 200~600 L/min flow rate. In this study, the effect of using fishway elements on hydraulic parameters regarding flow pattern, energy dissipation, relative downstream depth, relative aeration length, relative length o… Show more

“…Consequently, the breeding and foraging of the whole fish community have been seriously hindered, resulting in a sharp decline in the species and quantity of fish. In order to restore the connectivity of rivers and enable the longitudinal movements of fish, fishways are usually built (Daneshfaraz et al, 2021; Kuriqi et al, 2020; Poulet, 2007; Stuart et al, 2008).…”

“…The experimental TPKW physical models were constructed at at the laboratory of Soil Conservation and Watershed Management Research Institute and installed within an open channel of length of 11 m, width of 0.6 m, height of 0.8 m and bed slope of 0.0001. The flume contained plexiglass sidewalls with 10 mm thickness and negligible sidewall effects (to enhance flow visibility and decrease friction) [30]. The flume's flow was supplied by a pump that can also convey a maximum of 0.080 m 3 /s of water into the head tank.…”

“…In this study, a reduced-scale hydraulic model was used to solve the high-cost problem caused by constructing the original-size model [20]. The transformed hydraulic indexes based on the Froude similarity criterion were used to analyze the response of fish to hydraulic characteristics so as to obtain regular data about their upstream trajectories and swimming ability [21][22][23][24]. The analysis of the upstream response of Japanese eels is essential for the future design of fish passage facilities in Chinese estuaries.…”
