Experimental and computational evaluation of illicium verum as a novel eco‐friendly corrosion inhibitor for aluminium

Abstract: Illicium verum extract is investigated as a corrosion inhibitor of aluminium in the presence of an acid medium using gravimetric and impedance techniques. The gravimetric results reveal that the adsorption of inhibitor on the metal surface is physisorption. The impedance measurements are used to interpret the electrochemical process occurring at the interface of aluminium and corrosive medium. The surface characteristics of aluminium are evaluated using scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray spec… Show more

“…Ideally, C dl is used to display the capacitance of a double layer formed at the interface between a metallic substrate and the electrolyte. However, because of the surface roughness, surface inhomogeneity and the surface adsorption phenomena, there is a deviation from an ideal capacitive condition . Therefore, in this research CPE (constant phase element) is considered instead of C dl .…”

“…They were subjected to further separation using reversed-phase recycling HPLC with a solvent system of MeOH:H 2 O (55:45). Ajugoside and 1-(3-methyl-2-butenoxy)-4-(1-propenyl)benzene were obtained from the respective elutes after several recycling cycles and were identified by comparison of their spectral data with those reported in the literature [ [40] , [41] , [42] , [43] ].…”

“…The heterocyclic ring, polar functional groups with N, and the O and S atoms in polymer inhibitors can be absorbed on the metal surface to form complexes with metal ions. As a result, the metal surface can be blanketed and protected from corrosive solutions . However, the poor solubility of most polymeric materials in an aqueous medium has highly limited their applications as corrosion inhibitors.…”
