Investigation of polyacrylamide containing capsaicin monomer as a novel corrosion inhibitor for mild steel in hydrochloric acid

Abstract: Polyacrylamide containing capsaicin‐derived monomer P(AM‐MAA‐AMPS‐HDDE‐SA) (PAMAHS) was investigated as a novel green polymer inhibitor for Q235 mild steel at 298 K in 1 M hydrochloric acid solution. Weight loss measurements, electrochemical techniques, and surface investigation methods were conducted to evaluate the inhibition performance and mechanism. The results indicated that the green inhibitor performed well in inhibiting the corrosion of mild steel and that the inhibition efficiency increased with the … Show more

“…Applicability of Langmuir adsorption isotherm to the adsorption of OPEFB extracts and powder on the surface of mild steel indicates that there is no interaction between the adsorbate and adsorbent and the adsorbed film is monolayer . This present finding seems to be consistent with other types of corrosion inhibitor, such as Osmanthus leaves extract, capsaicin, and Croton cajucara that obeyed Langmuir isotherm …”

“…Though the inhibition started to decrease after 4 days, the corrosion inhibition efficiency for 1 week was above 90%, and R ct was still higher than that of the blank, indicating good stability. [ 16 ]…”

“…According to previous reports, the hydrophobically associated polymer (HAP), a water‐soluble polymer with a small number of hydrophobic groups on the hydrophilic macromolecular chain with excellent thermal, salt, and shear resistance, also known to be a nontoxic, biodegradable, and environment‐friendly material has attracted extensive attention. [ 13–15 ] Therefore, HAPs are mainly used in improving oil production [ 16,17 ] ; however, little attention has been focused on exploring their applications as corrosion inhibitors.…”

“…Kads is also linked to standard free energy of adsorption by the following equation: ΔitalicGads°=RTIn(55.5italicKads),where R is the gas constant and T is the absolute temperature. The value of 55.5 is the concentration of water in solution in mol/L.…”
