Experimental and calculated N(4S) temporal density profile in the N2flowing post-discharge

Abstract: The post-discharge generated by a direct current N2 flowing discharge was studied by optical emission spectroscopy. The experimental conditions were such that the short-lived afterglow could be detected. The post-glow emissions, first positive and 1st negative N2 systems, were recorded along the post-discharge tube up to times of the order of 0.1 s (late afterglow). The experimental parameters, gas and vibrational temperatures, were measured and utilized in a numerical kinetic model developed for calculation… Show more

“…The singlet species account for vibrational states as source generation mechanisms. This VDF heating effect is the same one that occurs in the generation of the pink afterglow phenomenon in the nitrogen flowing post-discharge [9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16].…”

“…, p is the gas pressure in Torr) [9]. This procedure to obtain the electron density was utilized in several of our works on nitrogen discharges and post-discharges [8,[10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18]. We utilized high purity N 2 gas (99.999%) in this study.…”

“…In Ar-N 2 gas mixtures, the N 2 (C, v ) states are enhanced by reaction (4) as was discussed in the section 3. Also, the electron collisions and pooling reactions between nitrogen metastable states [34,35] have to be taken into account. The results in figure 6 indicate that all these factors contribute to increasing the N 2 (C, v ) vibrational temperature in Ar-xN 2 gas mixtures at a low percentage of nitrogen.…”

“…These bands correspond to an early afterglow produced by collisions of the N2(X, v ) and N2(A, a ′) metastable molecules 13. The vibrational distribution of the N2 bands has been analyzed by the method described in ref 14.…”
