Experience of the Crane Steel Wire Ropes Non-Destructive Tests

Abstract: The non-destructive tests (NDT) of the steel wire ropes put on the crane pulley blocks comprise more than a half of our NDT services. The intensive utilization of cranes often leads to critical situations endangering health and safety at work. The operators are forced to provide safety use of the cranes due to new cranes constructions, new construction of the block pulley and put on the new steel wire rope constructions. The NDT tests of the crane steel wire ropes are coordinate by the Standard ISO 4309. We ha… Show more

“…After a minimum time of 10 minutes, the excess developer was removed using conjugated air with a maximum pressure of 0.034 MPa. The control was carried out in a control cabin under the UV lamp and a minimum radiation intensity of 1200 μW/cm2 on the surface and by the light intensity in the cabin that does not exceed 20 lux on the checking surface [21,22].…”

“…Wire rope is one of the most frequently used loading and bearing tools in various engineering applications, such as elevators, cableways, bridges, cranes, and hoisting equipment, and plays a significant role in guaranteeing human life and property [ 1 , 2 ]. However, plenty of defects regularly occur in the in-service steel wire rope owing to damage and failure both in strength and structure, which may cause severe accidents and even fatalities.…”

“…The research was conducted using the ropes of loading cranes, mining winches, cableways, cable-stayed bridges, pillar chimneys, antenna masts, overhead transmission lines and other installations. In the article [10], the authors presented the results of their own research on the NDT method application for the assessment of ropes used in cranes. The authors focused their attention on the application of this method to assess the internal condition of ropes.…”
